At Little Town Child Care and Montessori, our primary focus is to support the growth and development of your child. At Little Town Child Care and Montessori, we prioritize the safety and education of every child in our care. Our dedicated team of teachers are highly qualified, holding Early Childhood Education degrees and registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators. Additionally, each staff member holds a current Standard First Aid/CPR certificate, ensuring the well-being of your child.

At Little Town Child Care and Montessori, our therapy team consists of registered members of the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario. With specialized training in applied behavioral analysis and speech pathology, they are well-equipped to provide top-notch care to support your child’s development. The goal is to ensure your child’s success in communication and behavior.

DEVELOPMENT MILESTONES

Speech and Language Developmental Milestones

At Little Town Child Care and Montessori, we understand that every child develops differently. Our speech-language pathologists have compiled a list of common language milestones by age to serve as a guide. However, if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s language development, feel free to reach out to us for more information.

BIRTH TO 3 MONTHS

  • The child makes cooing sounds
  • The child has different cries for different needs
  • The child smiles at you
  • The child is startled due to loud sounds
  • The child is soothed/calmed by a familiar voice

4 TO 6 MONTHS

  • The child babbles and makes different sounds

  • The child makes sounds back to you when you talk

  • The child enjoys games like peek-a-boo

  • The child turns his/her eyes toward a sound source

  • The child responds to music or toys that make noise

7 TO 12 MONTHS

  • The child should wave hi/bye

  • The child responds to his/her name

  • The child lets you know what he/she wants using sounds, and actions like pointing

  • The child begins to follow simple directions (e.g., Where is your nose?)

  • The child localizes sound by turning his/her head toward the sound

BY 12 TO 18 MONTHS

  • The child should use common words and start to put words together
  • The child enjoys listening to storybooks
  • The child points to body parts or pictures in a book when asked
  • The child looks at your face when talking to you

2 TO 3 YEARS

  • The child should use sentences of three or more words most of the time

  • The child understands different concepts (e.g., in-on; up-down

  • The child follows two-part directions (e.g., take the book and put it on the table)

  • The child answers simple questions (e.g., Where is the car?)

  • The child participates in short conversations

3 TO 4 YEARS

  • The child should tell a short story or talk about daily activities

  • The child talks in sentences with adult-like grammar

  • The child generally speaks clearly so people understand him/her

  • The child hears you when you call to them from another room

  • The child listens to the television at the same volume as others

Developmental Milestones Sensory

BIRTH to 6 MONTHS

  • Recognizes scent of mother’s breast milk

  • ​​Hearing is mature

    ​​Tracks objects with eyes

    ​​Responds to sounds and voice

  • Reaches for nearby objects

  • Actively coordinates suck, swallow, breath sequence, tongue is cupped, forward rhythmical movements of the tongue, and jaw consistently moves up and down in a coordinated pattern

  • Sleeps 4-10-hour intervals

  • Cries to communicate hunger, fear, discomfort

6 TO 12 MONTHS

  • Plays 2-3 minutes with a single toy

  • ​​Imitates gestures

  • ​​Uses tongue to move food around mouth

  • ​​Opens mouth to be fed

  • ​​Sleeps 10-12 hours with only 1 awakening

  • ​​Tolerates a range of different textured foods

  • Drinks from a cup

1 TO 2 YEARS

  • Bothered by soiled nappy

  • Distinguishes between edible and inedible objects (18 months)

  • Understands common dangers of hot objects, stairs, glass

  • Enjoys messy play

  • ​​Reacts to extremes in temperature

  • Looks for an object he/she watched fall out of sight (such as a spoon that fell under the table)

  • Can count 1-5

  • Knows most colors

  • Able to completely clothe self, only requiring assistance with laces, buttons, and other fasteners in awkward places

As a Speech-Language Pathologist and/or Applied Behavior Analysis you will:

  • Create and/or contribute to excellence in the patient experience
  • Lead patients through individualized care plans – accurately assessing, communicating and providing treatment to facilitate goal attainment for the patient
  • Liaise with referral sources to build relationships and ensure patients’ needs are met
  • Providing written reports, as required, ensuring all documentation is aligned with College standards
  • Contribute to the team through collaboration, demonstrating passion for your work and using good judgement & integrity in decision-making
  • Provide ongoing evaluation of patient progress
  • Engage in continuous learning and skills development

As a member of the Little Town Team, you will:

  • Have 2+ years of community experience
  • Possess a Master’s Degree
